As gasoline prices skyrocket, the pressure is on to find another way to fuel our cars. On July 13, 2008, the starting gun will fire in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge—a cross-country car race reminiscent of those held in the early 1900’s, when cars themselves were cutting-edge technology. This time, however, the technology is solar PV—the fuel of the future. This 10-day race by participants from many respected universities will cross more than the slated 2,400 miles from Dallas, Texas to Calgary, Alberta—it will also cross that leap of faith distance from today to tomorrow.
It is clear that distributed generation, and PV in particular, will eventually have its “day in the sun.”
