Have You Heard: Solar Training for Fire Fighters

“The first time fire fighters encounter solar should not be in an emergency situation,” says IREC’s Laure-Jeanne Davignon.

Davignon and Fire Captain Matthew Paiss, San Jose FD (IAFF Local 230) spoke with Solar Wakeup’s Frank Andorka about Solar PV Safety for Fire Fighters for the United States of Solar podcast series.

IREC and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) are developing a new self-paced, online fire fighter training course with rich video content and simulated environments, so fire fighters can practice the knowledge they’ve learned in a training environment, rather than on an emergency call.

Designed by experts from the solar industry and the fire service, the training guides learners through the process of identifying the presence of PV systems, shutting down the system to the extent possible, and minimizing shock and other hazards on the active incident scene.
