2009 Workforce Education Conference Being Planned

Plans are underway for the third national conference on New Ideas in Educating a Workforce in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. This event will be held in the fall of 2009 in Albany, New York.

“Green” jobs are the foundation for the new clean energy sector emerging across the country. The conference will offer the most current information on instructional strategies, curricula development, and best practices for training in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields. Pre-conference, technical workshops will be held followed by 2 days of conference sessions.

The date and venue will be confirmed soon. A “Call for Presentations” will be released later this year. Please watch www.irecusa.org for more information or email Jane Weissman at [email protected] to be put on the mailing list.

The conference is sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and organized by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc.. The conference planners include representatives from the Partnership for Environmental Technology Education, Hudson Valley Community College, US Department of Energy, Lane Community College, Oakland Community College, SunPower Corp., the Workforce Development Institute and others.

Minnesota Pioneers Integration of New Interconnection Standard Expected to Propel DERs

On Nov. 14, Minnesota became the first state to officially integrate the recently updated IEEE Standard 1547™-2018 into its statewide interconnection regulations when the Minnesota Public Service Commission adopted a new statewide technical standards document, known as the Technical Interconnection and Interoperability Requirements (TIIR). As part of their ruling, and heeding IREC’s recommendation, the Commission determined that the Distributed Generation Working Group will need to address a number of important near-term implementation details to ensure a smooth rollout of the standards.
