The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) will hold their annual Small Wind Conference, Power for the People, December 7-9, 2010 at the Convention Center in Portland, Oregon. This year’s program is divided into two session tracks, Small Wind and Community Wind.
The Small Wind Track is designed for dealers, installers, developers, manufacturers, and consumers who are interested in learning about small wind and willing to get engaged with industry professionals. Session topics include:
- Market Drivers and Barriers
- Policies and Incentives
- Industry Standards and Performance Testing
- Advancements in Technology Development
- Resource Assessment and Siting
- Workforce Development
The Community Wind Track aims to help participants walk away from the conference with the tools needed to secure the strategic partnerships necessary to develop marketable community wind projects. This track is designed for developers (community and commercial), financiers, commercial and turbine suppliers, regulators, siting authorities, and city and county leaders – who are interested in practical and applicable lessons. Session topics will include:
- Partnerships, Joint Development and Ownership
- State and Federal Policies and Incentives
- Financing Marketable Projects
- Successful Development Models
Two pre-conference seminars are scheduled for December 7th. These offerings are not included in the conference registration and must be registered for separately. The morning seminar is titled, Foundations of Small and Community Wind, and is billed as “the perfect primer for the more detailed conference sessions.” This non-technical session will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of wind energy specific to the small and community wind markets.
The afternoon seminar, Small Wind Installer Training – The Basics, is organized in collaboration with MREA. The seminar will offer an introduction to the technology, market and business of wind as it pertains to the on-the-ground dealers and installers. Attendees will learn about site assessment, permitting, and how to find local consumer incentives.
In addition to these programs, the conference will feature an exhibit hall with over 100 exhibitors showcasing the latest wind technology.
