Employment & Training Competency Model Released for Renewable Energy
The Renewable Energy Competency Model is now available at the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Competency Model Clearinghouse – Competency Model Clearinghouse – Renewable Energy Competency Model. DOL’s Employment and Training Administration assembled a group of subject matter experts to develop the model, including The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC).
In addition to the building blocks that lead to industry-sector technical competencies in the renewable energy industries, the model addresses the role of energy efficiency as part of industry-wide skill sets. It becomes a useful companion resource for supporting education and training programs along with IREC’s Best Practices Training Documents, the Solar Career Map, IREC’s training Standards and industry-accepted job task analyses.
“The U.S. Departments of Labor and Energy are to be applauded for building this model and for recognizing that for a complete picture of competencies, those for energy efficiency have to be included,” says Jane Weissman, IREC’s Executive Director.
