California’s Community College’s Workforce Development Centers of Excellence (COE) have released a recent study on energy efficiency occupations. The study, Energy Efficiency Occupations: Bay Region, details a rising need around eight energy efficiency occupations that could create thousands of well-paying jobs over the next three years, according to the report.
John Carrese, Director of the San Francisco Bay Center of Excellence at City College of San Francisco, is a co-author.
The report findings are based on survey responses from more than 700 firms that hire energy efficiency workers in 12 counties in the San Francisco Bay Area.
According to the report, the two largest growth occupations over the next 12 months are building performance or retrofitting specialists and energy auditors or home energy raters. The two largest growth occupations over the next three-year period are project managers for construction or design work, and building performance or retrofitting specialists.
Finding qualified workers tops the list of challenges for firms in the energy efficiency sector. Training and certification challenges, along with education and salary information from employers, are also discussed in the report.
