Community Housing Partners’ New River Center for Energy Research and Training (NRCERT) became the first DOE Weatherization Training Center to obtain IREC ISPQ Training Program Accreditation on June 7, 2012. In addition, they are the first training provider to become accredited for an energy efficiency/weatherization program.
“NRCERT is proud to represent the national network of Weatherization Training Centers as the first to complete this process to become accredited. This is just our beginning with IREC. Our plan is to become accredited under all four new NREL residential energy efficiency Job Task Analyses: Retrofit Installer/Technician, Energy Auditor, Quality Control Inspector, and Crew Leader. The corresponding certifications are nationally recognized industry credentials that are both portable and transferable between both the public and private sectors.” says Mark Jackson, Vice President for NRCERT.
“We are so pleased to reach this milestone in our efforts to bring third-party accreditation to the energy efficiency and weatherization industry” states Pat Fox, IREC Director of Operations. “It is our hope that NRCERT will be the first of many DOE Weatherization Training Centers to demonstrate the quality of their training and commitment to continuous improvement by successfully undergoing the application and assessment process.”
NRCERT was established in 1999 and provides training in state-of-the-art residential energy conservation techniques, home performance testing, and heating and cooling equipment diagnostics, repair, and replacement. Since its establishment over a decade ago, NRCERT has trained over 23,000 participants across 25 states and Canada. They are located in Christiansburg, Virginia.
The IREC Credentialing Program lays the foundation for a competent workforce for the clean energy economy. Using robust standards and a detailed process of application and assessment, IREC’s credentialing program drives quality workforce training and increased consumer confidence in the industry.
