In its role as a national leader in standards development and credentialing, the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) announces the formation of IREC’s Standards Committee. The committee will support and guide IREC’s development of consensus-based standards to promote a safe and effective renewable energy and energy efficiency workforce.
“IREC has gathered a Committee of the top experts in the country representing all parties that are part of the clean energy workforce framework,” says IREC President and CEO Jane Weissman. “With a common commitment to quality, the Committee will provide guidance and assurance that our Standards are the best in advancing quality training and workforce safeguards.”
Requirements established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will guide IREC’s standards development activities. Key elements of the ANSI standards development process include balance, transparency and openness in all phases of standards development activity. The committee will facilitate IREC’s compliance with these requirements, and demonstrate industry consensus.
The committee represents a diverse group of stakeholder categories including energy efficiency and renewable energy organizations, private sector employers, the trades, and educational institutions.
Current IREC’s Standards Committee members are: Richard Knaub, Ph.D. (Chair), National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Brian Hayden, HeatSpring Learning Institute; John Manz, National Sustainable Structures Center at the Pennsylvania College of Technology; Ryan Mayfield, Renewable Energy Associates, LLC/Lane Community College; Harold C. Ohde, Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust, IBEW #134; Sydney G. Roberts, Ph.D., Southface Energy Institute; and Jane Weissman, IREC.
The group is open to qualified individuals or organizations who have interest in or are materially affected by IREC’s standards activities. If interested, contact IREC for an application: [email protected] or call (518) 621-7379.
