IREC and the Vote Solar Initiative are sponsoring an upcoming webinar on March 8, 2010 (10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. PT; 1:00-2:00 pm ET) on solar feed in tariff (FIT) pricing, with practical approaches to establishing wholesale programs at the state level. Vote Solar works at the state, federal and local level to implement programs and policies that allow strong solar markets to grow — and pave the way for a transition to a renewable energy economy.
Recent state efforts to establish feed-in tariffs in the US have run into legal questions. The Federal Power Act gives the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission exclusive jurisdiction over wholesale power sales, but that does not mean states lack effective tools for establishing wholesale distributed generation markets.
Kevin Fox (attorney for Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc.) will review several of the current legal analyses, including a technical paper issued by The National Renewable Energy Lab, translate these analyses from legalese, and explain why it is that lawyers are largely reaching the same conclusion regarding state authority over wholesale markets. The webinar will focus on providing real world examples of strategies for advancing wholesale renewable energy generation that fit squarely within state authority.
