John Wiles at KVCC/HVCC PV for Code Officials Workshop

Kennebec  Valley Community College (KVCC) and Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) have teamed up to deliver workshops in each New England state for code officials who have the responsibility of permitting and inspecting solar PV systems.

These workshops work toward the larger DOE SunShot goal of reducing the ‘soft costs’ of solar, such as permitting and inspection. The one-day workshop familiarizes participants with the National Electrical Code requirements for PV systems, as well as applicable fire and building codes.

The first New England workshop was held in Randolph, Vermont on Sept 25, 2013 for over 60 participants with John Wiles.

The next workshop will be held at KVCC, on January 21, 2014. Pre-register to Amy Hudnor ([email protected]) by 1/9/14.

Minnesota Pioneers Integration of New Interconnection Standard Expected to Propel DERs

On Nov. 14, Minnesota became the first state to officially integrate the recently updated IEEE Standard 1547™-2018 into its statewide interconnection regulations when the Minnesota Public Service Commission adopted a new statewide technical standards document, known as the Technical Interconnection and Interoperability Requirements (TIIR). As part of their ruling, and heeding IREC’s recommendation, the Commission determined that the Distributed Generation Working Group will need to address a number of important near-term implementation details to ensure a smooth rollout of the standards.
