The Long Island Power Authority sponsored a four-day Wind Installer Training class in November. The training consisted of classroom instruction followed by the installation of a temporary small wind turbine. Classroom topics included: a technology review, fundamentals of wind, proper siting, wind speed and energy production assessment using wind maps, turbine/tower selection, zoning/permitting, foundations, safety, installation techniques, interconnection and net metering. The training was conducted by Gary Winslow of EAPC Wind Energy Services and Roy Butler of Four Winds Renewable Energy and was limited to fifteen contractors.
