On April 1st, The Mississippi Public Service Commission ordered an investigative study on the economic impact of net metering. The Commission  has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to conduct an Economic Impact Study/Cost-Benefits Analysis of net metering and interconnection standards in Mississippi.  The RFP seeks the services of an independent technical consultant to aid the Commission in the development of a cost-benefits analysis and to inform the Commission in the development of appropriate policies.  The Request for Proposals can be found on the Commission’s website.  The closing date for proposals is April 23rd, 2014, at 4:00 pm CT.

The Commission must conduct an Economic Impact Study/Cost-Benefits Analysis to comply with the state’s Administrative Procedures Law before the Commission can implement any net metering rules.  Mississippi is one of only a  handful of states that has no statewide net metering or interconnection policy.
