The Board of Directors of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) announces that it will suspend the administration of the Small Wind Installer Certification Examination after the September 22, 2012 exam cycle. Ezra Auerbach, NABCEP’s Executive Director says; “The Board took this action because the consistently low volume of Small Wind Installer candidates simply did not justify continuing administering the examination.”

Existing Small Wind Installer Certificants, along with those who pass the exam in September, will have their Certification remain active. Their certifications will be valid and recognized as long as they continue to meet the terms of certification and recertification. These terms include: continuing practice in the field; attaining a minimum number of continuing education hours; and, submitting recertification applications on a three year cycle. Small Wind Installer Certificants will continue to be listed on the NABCEP website.

Don Warfield, Chairperson of NABCEP says; “This was a hard decision for the Board to make largely due the amazing amount of work and commitment that was put into this program by the volunteers who served on the various Small Wind Installer Certification committees. On behalf of the Board, I want to thank these individuals for their efforts.”

NABCEP will maintain a list of individuals that express interest in attaining Small Wind Installer Certification so it can periodically reassess the viability of resuming the administration of the exam. Interested individuals should send an email to [email protected] with the subject line: Small Wind Installer Waiting List. The body of the email should include all their relevant contact information.
