The North Carolina Solar Center’s Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma Series (RETDS) is a non-degree continuing-education program that provides technical and hands-on training, information on current policies and technologies, and a support network of experienced renewable energy professionals.  RETDS can also help meet required certifications for some renewable energy professionals, like North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) or to become a Go Solar NC registered contractor.

The program is geared especially for electricians and electrical contractors, plumbers and HVAC professionals, builders and architects, entrepreneurs and interested individuals who want to gain a higher level of professional training in the field of renewable energy.

NCSC’s RETD program is an ISPQ Accredited Continuing Education Provider, a USGBC Education Provider, and a registered NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam Provider.

REPV(E): Renewable Electric Generation with Photovoltaic Systems

September 27 – October 1Newly added!

NCSU, Raleigh, NC

REPV(E) is a weeklong workshop designed for those who need a refresher course on the basics of electricity to prepare them for the technical and practical aspects of designing and installing a residential photovoltaic system. Includes a hands-on installation day. Credits: AIA, PDHs, GBCI CEs. Optional: NABCEP PV Entry-Level Exam.  Register here.


REW: Renewable Electric Generation with Small Wind

October 11 – 15

NCSU, Raleigh, NC

This weeklong workshop focuses on residential (small) wind energy, but will touch on the general concepts of electric generation with wind turbines. Utility and community scale wind facilities will be discussed in general terms. At the end of the week, the class will take-down and install a Skystream 3.7 residential wind turbine. GB-Intro: Designing and Building a Sustainable Home or Small Building

October 11 – 15

NCSU, Raleigh, NC

This weeklong workshop covers integrated design  concepts, green building programs, materials selection, building envelope, introduction to passive solar, and ventilation and indoor air quality. The workshop also features a green building tour. Register here.


NEW! REPV-A: Advanced Design and Installation of Photovoltaic Systems

November 8 – 12

NCSU, Raleigh, NC

This weeklong 35-hour program covers advanced topics in design and installation of residential and commercial PV systems. Pre-requisite: REPV or an ISPQ-certified and/or NABCEP-approved course on photovoltaics. This course may serve to complete your RETDS diploma requirements. Register here.
