New NJ Law Warns Firefighters of Solar Panels
New legislation signed in late January by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie mandates that building owners must notify local fire officials of roof-mounted solar panels. The law stems from a massive fire last July at the Dietz & Watson distribution center, in which firefighters were encountered a roof almost covered with solar panels and were unable to fight the fire from above.

The Courier-Post notes that only one and two-family residences are exempt from the new law, which requires posting of an emblem on a building’s front entrance to signify the presence of roof top solar panels.
