The Sean Brooke House in New Bedford, MA, is a 19-apartment complex fully outfitted with beds, furniture, appliances, and a 38-kW roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) system. Some six years in the making, the Sean Brook House involved the extensive renovation and reclamation of a derelict mill building, providing a fitting contrast of “old” and “new.” The PV system, designed and installed by Zapotec Energy Inc., covers much of the south roof of the new building and is expected to produce approximately 50,400 kWh of electricity per year. At a price of $0.20/kWh, that equates to over $10,000 per year in avoided electrical costs for the facility.
The PV modules were manufactured by Evergreen Solar in Devens, MA, and the inverter was supplied by Satcon, located in Boston, MA. Live updates of the systems performance are available for viewing.
