Come to the Solar America Communities Workshop: Getting Started with Solar in Your Community in Dallas, Texas from 8 am-1 pm on October 21.
This free half-day workshop, in conjunction with Solar Power International, will focus on important concepts related to residential and small scale commercial solar installations, including how to create a local-level solar program and install solar on municipal and other community facilities. As a participant, you will learn about policy considerations in the state of Texas and learn best practices from communities across the state, including the Solar America Cities of Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.
The workshop will start with a networking session that connects you with vendors over coffee.
As a result of participating in this workshop, you will be able to:
- Dispel common myths about solar and communicate the benefits to communities that go solar — Local government leaders can take these talking points back to their communities to dispel myths about solar. Once a community is on-board with solar, local government leaders can start planning for and implementing solar programs.
- Take immediate steps to bring solar to your community — We’ll introduce and discuss the suite of financing options for solar installations available in Texas. This section will also focus on five steps to getting solar installed on a local government facility.
- Identify resources to overcome barriers — A variety of barriers can exist at the local level that may make it difficult for solar to spread throughout a community. By updating local rules and regulations and improving utility policies, it becomes possible for more people to install solar.
