Marty Roberts, Project Director for Solar Sonoma County, reports on the recent Solar Sonoma County Fair. Though this was the first fair for Sonoma County, Solar Sebastopol held fairs in 2003 and 2004.
The workshops and panels were well attended. “People seemed very interested in learning about solar and energy efficiency,” she said. “There was a real buzz going on. And of course the County’s new financing program was of great interest.” (see Solar in Santa Rosa/Solar Sonoma County: It’s a countywide affair, April 21, 2009).
Apparently attendees thought it was a stellar event.
“I know it extracted a lot from you, but your contribution to the community is outstanding, and hopefully compensates for the drain,” said one fair goer.
Roberts said it was heartening to listen to people talking around the solar booths.
“There was a real buzz going about the technology and practical concerns,” she said. “People are TUNED IN! And to see so many public officials chatting, etc., not just merely “showing up.”
Roberts said plans are already underway for next year.
“The Solar Living Institute wants to consider combining their long-standing SolFest with our event,” said Roberts. “We need to regroup a bit before we decide. Funding will be an issue too. Of course everyone is talking about “next year”, so we may have no choice!”
