From the editor: 2010 in review, and predictions for 2011
It’s our annual Year-in-Review issue, the time when I get the chance to look back and remind myself (and you) how busy the renewable energy community (and IREC) has been.
No surprises–we were busy. Exceptionally so.
In 2010, IREC produced seven reports on critical issues like community renewables, fire code safety, best practices for renewable energy training, U.S. solar market trends. IREC was also a contributor to the 2010 edition of Freeing the Grid. IREC’s Annual Updates & Trends Report, released at our Annual Meeting, gives a detailed review of activities from key IREC programs. And Kevin Fox (Keyes & Fox), and Laurel Varnado (NCSC), produced Sustainable Multi-Segment Market Design for Distributed Solar Photovoltaics for the Solar ABC’s. Read Jane Weissman’s excellent summary of the IREC reports and Updates & Trends. They’re also listed, in chronological order, on the IREC website.
What else?
Pat Fox released the new ISPQ Standard 01022, and (in her spare time), developed a solar licensing database. NCSC’s Laurel Varnado and videographer, Peter Bell, produced a four-minute video about IREC’s work and impact in the industry over nearly 30 years. It was premiered at IREC’s Annual Meeting in October in Los Angeles. IREC’s Larry Sherwood organized and conducted six webinars on today’s urgent renewable energy issues. If you missed any, or want to re-watch them, you can catch the replay. They’re all archived (in video format) on the IREC website.
My prediction for IREC in 2011? More—much more— in content that educates, informs, that continues to build a body of useful, valuable and timely information for your work. We’ll let you know what we’re doing through this website, newsletters, and our social networks.
Finally, I can’t let this opportunity pass without a personal note of gratitude to the IREC team. I remain amazed with and humbled by the depth of their expertise, inventiveness and smarts. We’re all indescribably fortunate to have them in the renewable energy community, and I’m ineffably privileged to work with them.
Thanks to all who contribute to and read the State & Stakeholder Newsletter. Here’s to an inspired, energized and unprecedented 2011.
Best,
