energy through renewables portfolio standards (RPS), according to a report
recently released by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
According to the report, entitled Renewables Portfolio Standards in the United States: A Status Report with Data through 2007, the RPS policies
that are in place today apply to nearly 50 percent of U.S. electricity
load. The report describes the key design features of state RPS programs
and the differences among them; the kinds of renewable resources that are
benefiting from RPS, compliance information, effects on retail electricity
