What do President Obama, SunShot’s Minh Le, SEIA’s Rhone Resch and IREC’s Larry Sherwood have in common? All four were featured in a video that opened the 2nd SunShot Challenge Summit in Anaheim last month, highlighting the U.S. Department of Energy’s SunShot initiative.
The Summit focused on assessing the progress made on the grand challenge: to make solar electricity cost competitive by 2020. And it was an exchange of ideas to reach that goal.
“We are now 60 percent of the way to our 2020 objectives, just three years into a decade long initiative,” reports Minh Le.
The video describes an ‘all of the above’ approach to achieving those goals—including 6 cents/kWh for utility-scale solar generation—through research, tech transfer, permitting, tax incentives, and a comprehensive approach to installation.
“Today, and every day, 56 new solar jobs are being created,” said IREC Vice President/COO Larry Sherwood
