The Washington Electric Co-op (WEC) has been ordered by the Vermont Public Service Board to suspend its proposed net metering program.

A press release says because of this, WEC will no longer be accepting net metering applications.

In October, WEC filed a plan with state regulators that would allow them to continue offering new net metering installations above the current 4% statutory cap and with a limit of 5 kW per installation.

A press release says that because WEC is a fully regulated utility they must get permission from its regulators to exceed the net metering cap and to make any changes to the program.

“WEC remains committed to the deployment of renewable technologies including small scale projects such as solar generation at members’ homes,” said Patty Richards, WEC’s General Manger.

WEC plans on working with lawmakers to approve legislation during the 2014 legislative session.
