On May 15, 2008, Xcel Energy announced that the design phase of its Smart Grid plan for Boulder, Colorado, is complete and construction has begun on the system’s control and operations center. This multi-phase project is expected to be completed by year-end 2009. During Phase I, which runs from March to August 2008, the equipment will be tested and customer reaction will be noted. During Phase II, which runs from September 2008 to December 2009, the remaining equipment will be deployed to all customers. Toward the end of phase II, Xcel will enable web-portal access for all customers and will begin the initial integration of plug-in vehicles and solar and/or wind distributed generators. Xcel has posted its full design and scope plan on its website for public viewing.
