With an introductory perspective from IREC President/CEO Larry Sherwood, national solar code and technical experts Jerry Henderson and Pete Jackson discussed recent solar code updates and the impact on those tasked with enforcement. Topics included changes to NEC (2017) and I-code (2018 cycle) solar requirements and adoption considerations, including rapid shutdown, grounding, energy storage and structural requirements, such as roof venting, roof load and mounting systems.

Other solar code enforcement considerations were covered, including permitting and first responder safety. The session was presented as part of the DOE Sunshot Initiative STEP (Solar Training and Education for Professionals), with IREC partners: International Code Council’s Solar Rating & Certification Corporation(ICC-SRCC) and International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI).
