Expanding consumer access to clean energy has emerged as a central theme across the clean energy policy landscape, and shared renewable energy, particularly shared solar (aka “community solar”), continues to gain traction among diverse stakeholders as a promising model to deliver economic and environmental benefits of clean energy to more Americans.
IREC developed the National Shared Renewables Scorecard to simplify and provide greater clarification regarding program differences, strengths and weaknesses, as well as to provide a common metric by which all programs can be evaluated.
With continued growth and increasing interest in this model, evaluating state level programs side-by-side has become increasingly challenging. Today, fourteen active state programs distributed across 11 states and the District of Columbia exist, using a simple scholastic grading system that reflects the programs’ strengths and weaknesses using a common metric.
