Innovative Online Training Series for Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) Administrative Professionals Released

IREC is proud to announce the launch of the new Training for WAP Administrative Professionals now available at https://wap.litmos.com. The training was developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

WAP professionals across the country work hard every day to reduce the energy burden of low-income Americans. They utilize targeted energy efficiency retrofits based on cutting-edge building science. Thousands of professionals in the more than 700 WAP agencies now have access to an innovative new series of interactive online training modules to help them perform their jobs more effectively and increase program quality and impact.

With the collaboration of a passionate national team of WAP subject matter experts, the extraordinary series of interactive, job-focused e-learning courses was developed at a record pace. The training initiative focuses on helping WAP Directors, Fiscal Managers, and Quality Assurance Managers, and is intended to benefit both new and existing WAP professionals. The goal is to provide access to information, resources, and tools to run an efficient and effective weatherization operation.

Learners access an online platform that provides suggested pathways to customize the instructional experience and respond to the needs of individuals based on their job responsibilities. Each short course is about 15 minutes, allowing participants to engage with training as their work schedules allow.

All of the courses feature highly interactive learning scenarios, downloadable references, job aids and knowledge checks that simulate many of the challenges and decisions WAP administrative professionals encounter day-to-day on the job.

“IREC’s Workforce Development Team was thrilled to be able to lead the instructional design process for this exciting new resource and to create an engaging and interactive experience for learners that results in improved job and program performance,” said Director of Training and Development Kristen Ferguson.

“The intensive development phase of this project brought together an incredible team of WAP professionals from across the US, who helped to infuse the curriculum with realistic problems and solutions for high-quality program administration,” said Director of Credentialing Anna Sullivan.

Developed in response to WAP network feedback solicited by DOE, the self-paced online training courses are designed for WAP subgrantee staff, and are also applicable to WAP grantee staff, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. Training topics include:

  • Budget and Planning
