“We want allied professionals to understand that we are part of the solution when it comes to safety and ensuring that professionals have the competencies they need to interact with solar technology.”
Laure-Jeanne Davignon, IREC Vice President–Workforce Program
As the clean energy industry matures and diversifies, it is imperative that allied professionals such as firefighters, code officials and others know more about clean energy technology, both for safety and quality assurance. For code officials, the right training and resources assist with streamlined and efficient permitting and inspections, which can decrease the cost of clean energy access for consumers.
IREC’s team of instructional design, elearning and energy efficiency and home performance experts partner with a variety of sectors to include clean energy in their professional development toolkits. Our research-driven, proven training development approach offers compelling and relevant educational opportunities that fit into the lifestyle of a professional and are directly applicable to their jobs. IREC training includes innovative online courses which enable learners to interact with content in a way that enhances knowledge retention and impacts job performance.
More than 7,000 U.S. firefighters have taken IREC’s interactive online and live solar training, specifically created for them in partnership with the International Association of Firefighters and National Association of State Fire Marshals.
More than 7,000 municipal code officials to date are confident permitting and inspecting solar systems as a result of IREC’s training programs, developed with the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and the International Code Council.
Currently, IREC develops clean energy training within a number of allied professions, including for apartment maintenance technicians, weatherization professionals, utility workers and others.
