With all the hundreds of training programs for energy efficiency and weatherization out there, how would you know a good one from a not-so-good one? Is the training program offered at Rocket Science Community College better than one that’s offered from Joe’s Training School? What about accreditation and certification? Are those important things to consider when looking for top-notch training?
According to Pat Fox, Director of Operations for the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc., high quality training drives high-quality work. And that high-quality work instills consumer confidence and ultimately, enthusiastic support for the clean energy economy.
Fox, who also oversees IREC’s ISPQ Accreditation and Certification Program, makes a strong case for credentialing for training programs and trainers. As the North American licensee for the ISPQ (Institute for Sustainable Power Quality) International Standard 01022, IREC’s ISPQ credential provides a critical, independent, third-party quality assessment of energy efficiency and renewable-energy training providers. According to Fox, achieving accreditation or certification based on IREC’s ISPQ Standard 01022 proves that training providers do consistently excellent work, setting them apart from the rest of the pack.
